AirPods 5 in Uganda: Open-Ear ANC, Battery and Price in Kampala
October 27, 2026 · AppleXtreme Store, Kampala
Source: Apple Newsroom, 9 September 2026 · Written for Uganda by AppleXtreme StoreApple has launched AirPods 5, and they are in stock at AppleXtreme Store Uganda. These are open-ear AirPods, the same shape as AirPods 4 that sit in the ear without a rubber tip, but with Active Noise Cancellation that Apple says is much stronger than before. This is our plain guide to what changed and who should spend money on them in Kampala.
Price: from UGX 890,000. Apple's US prices are $129 for the standard USB-C case and $149 for the Wireless Charging Case. Ask us on WhatsApp which case version we have on the shelf today.
What's new in AirPods 5
The big change is noise cancellation. Apple says AirPods 5 remove up to 50% more noise than AirPods 4 with ANC, based on its own testing. As always, how much you notice depends on your settings and where you are.
Apple has also redesigned the inside of the earbud, with a new multiport acoustic design, a custom driver and a newer Adaptive EQ. The aim is to sound good in more ear shapes, which matters for open-ear buds because the fit is looser than with silicone tips.
Transparency mode is said to sound more natural. Adaptive Audio mixes Transparency and noise cancellation depending on your surroundings, and Conversation Awareness lowers your music when you start talking. There is also Personalized Spatial Audio, which needs an iPhone with a TrueDepth camera to set up.
Two cases, two battery figures
You can choose between two versions:
- USB-C case: up to 4 hours of listening with ANC on (6 hours with it off), and up to 20 hours in total with the case.
- Wireless Charging Case: up to 5 hours with ANC on (7 off), and up to 22 hours in total. It charges by USB-C, on a Qi pad, or on an Apple Watch charger.
The Wireless Charging Case model also adds a force sensor on the stem that lets you swipe for volume. Apple says this is a first for open-ear earbuds.
Design, colour and durability
Each earbud weighs 4.3 g, so you forget they are there. The case is 32.3 g for the USB-C version and 34.7 g for the wireless one. Apple only shows White on its site, so do not expect a choice of colours.
Dust, sweat and water resistance is better than on the previous model, which helps if you walk a lot in the sun or run in the morning. Apple also says the AirPods contain 40% recycled material overall, and the wireless case is 70% recycled plastic.
Live Translation and Siri AI
Live Translation now works across the whole AirPods range. You download languages in the Translate app, then start it by pressing both stems or by asking Siri. It needs Apple Intelligence switched on, a compatible iPhone and up-to-date software, and it is not available in every language or region.
Siri AI is in beta with iOS 27 and starts in English. It needs an Apple Intelligence-capable device, and Apple says some features have daily limits. You can nod or shake your head to answer Siri. Treat these as extras. Do not buy AirPods 5 mainly for features that depend on a beta.
Should you upgrade?
Buy them if you like open-ear comfort but wanted proper noise cancellation, if you use public transport or work in a noisy shop, or if you are on very old AirPods with a worn battery.
Skip them if you already have AirPods 4 with ANC and are happy. The jump is real but not huge. Also skip them if you want a sealed, in-ear fit for the loudest places, such as a packed taxi on Jinja Road. In that case the AirPods Pro 3 are the better choice. If you want the open-ear style for less, look at the AirPods 4.
Before you buy: ask to see the box sealed, then check the serial number on Apple's coverage page once you have them. Cheap AirPods sold on the street or on social media are often fakes or grey imports with no warranty. Make sure the seller will exchange a confirmed defect, with proof of purchase.Buying in Uganda
View the AirPods 5 in the store, or message us on WhatsApp and we will confirm which case version is available. We deliver the same day in Kampala and Wakiso, and within 24 to 48 hours upcountry. You can pay by MTN MoMo, Airtel Money, bank transfer or cash on delivery.
AirPods 5 pair with any iPhone, iPad or Mac, but some features need the latest software. If you want to put an old pair or an old phone towards the cost, ask us about trade-in. You can see everything else we stock in the shop, or visit us at Wilson One Building, Shop WD13, Wilson Street.
Charging is simple. Both cases charge over USB-C, so a phone charger you already own will do, and the wireless version also works on a Qi pad. A small power bank is enough to top the case up on the road.
