Apple’s “Welcome Home” Event Is October 13: What to Expect
Apple has confirmed a launch on Tuesday, October 13, and the theme is the home. Marketing chief Greg Joswiak posted a short teaser of the rainbow Apple logo being stitched into fabric, with the line “Welcome home. October 13.”
When and where
Press invitations describe an “Apple Experience” in Tribeca, New York, at 9:00 a.m. ET. That time applies to the press gathering. Apple hasn’t yet said whether there will be a public livestream or when it would start, so check Apple’s site closer to the day.
What we expect to see
Apple hasn’t confirmed any products yet. The following comes from reports and leaks.
A smart home hub. This is the headline product. It’s said to have a display of roughly six inches, in a countertop version and a wall-mounted version. The countertop model would sit on a speaker base with an arm that tilts the screen. Both versions would plug into USB-C power rather than run on a battery.
The hub is reportedly designed for the whole household. It would recognize who is speaking or approaching and show that person’s messages, calendar and favorite apps. A guest mode would keep your personal details private. Leaked setup screens also suggest it can work as a photo display next to a large clock. FaceTime, music and smart accessory controls are expected too.
A refreshed HomePod mini. It’s expected to keep its look but get a faster chip for Siri AI. Leaks point to new green and pink colors. It would be the mini’s first hardware update since 2020.
A new Apple TV. The design is expected to stay the same, with a faster processor. It would be the first new Apple TV box since 2022.
Why the wait
Bloomberg reports these products were originally planned for 2024 but were delayed while Apple worked on its Siri AI. That assistant began beta testing in September on existing Apple devices.
What comes later
Apple is also reportedly working with LG on smart home accessories, including a video doorbell, smart lock, thermostat, temperature sensor and security cameras. They’re expected to carry LG branding, with LG handling manufacturing and support. They probably won’t reach shoppers for at least a few more months.
Our take
If the reports are right, this event is about making Siri AI useful in every room, not just on your phone. We’ll cover everything Apple announces on October 13, so check back after the event
