Source: Apple Newsroom, 13 October 2026 · Written for Uganda by AppleXtreme StoreApple's "Welcome Home" event happened on October 13, 2026, and it is the most smart-home-focused announcement Apple has made in years. Three new products, all shipping within the month: HomeView, Apple's first smart display; a new HomePod mini; and a new Apple TV 4K. Apple also announced a separate lineup of LG and Schneider Home-branded cameras, locks and thermostats that work with the Apple Home app. Here is what actually changed, what each thing does, and what it will cost at AppleXtreme Store Uganda.

HomeView is a genuinely new product category for Apple, not a refresh of something that already existed. It is a 7-inch Liquid Retina display on an aluminum body that tilts on a stainless steel hinge, sold either as a tabletop model (silver, starlight, rose pink or space gray) or a flatter wall-mounted model (silver or space gray) that fits Schneider Home wall mounts, sold separately.
The screen itself is the easy part to understand. What is new is how it recognizes who is standing in front of it. HomeView uses face recognition to tell up to six household members apart, and switches instantly to that person's own Home Screen, calendar and widgets. Your personal content only shows when you are actually the one recognized in front of it, and only while your paired iPhone is nearby and recently unlocked, so it is not just a shared tablet bolted to the wall.
The headline software feature is Siri AI, Apple's more conversational assistant, running in beta on the A18 chip. It handles follow-up questions, understands what is currently on screen, and can pull in personal context such as your calendar or messages when a paired Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone or iPad is nearby. It launches in English only, and Apple has confirmed it will not be available in the EU at launch because of regulatory restrictions there; that limitation does not apply in Uganda.
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| FaceTime | Calls with Center Stage, which keeps you framed as you move around the kitchen |
| Home controls | Touch or voice control of lights, locks, thermostats and blinds; up to nine live camera feeds at once |
| Kitchen | Turns a recipe into hands-free, step-by-step instructions with built-in timers |
| Audio | Two full-range drivers, a down-firing woofer and Spatial Audio support; works in multiroom setups with HomePod |
HomePod mini 2: the same shape, a genuinely different speaker inside
The new HomePod mini keeps the familiar small, round shape but moves to the Apple S10 chip, which does real-time computational analysis of whatever is playing to tune the sound as it goes. The standout new feature is Sound Glow: the fabric top surface lights up and gently pulses in colors pulled from the currently playing album artwork, or from the mood of soundscapes like rain or ocean waves. It comes in five colors: pink, green, blue, white and midnight.
Practically, it still recognizes up to six household voices, can alert your iPhone if it hears a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm going off while you are out, and now works as a Wi-Fi speaker for Mac computers with Wi-Fi 6E. Pair two together for real stereo, or pair a matched pair with the new Apple TV 4K for four-speaker home theater surround sound with automatic room calibration.
Apple TV 4K gets the A19 chip and a real reason to say "Siri" out loud
The new Apple TV 4K moves to the A19 chip: up to 50% faster CPU and twice the GPU performance of the previous model, plus a new dedicated AV1 decoder that streams high-quality video more efficiently, which matters on slower home connections. Three far-field microphones with echo cancellation mean you can say "Siri" while something is already playing loudly, without reaching for the remote.
Siri AI arrives here too, in beta, with full-screen results and the ability to ask a follow-up question without repeating yourself. As a home hub it has built-in Wi-Fi and Thread, works with HomeKit Secure Video, and can show doorbell camera notifications right on screen with two-way talk, if you have a compatible doorbell like the new LG one below. The Siri Remote keeps its existing design but now supports Find My with Precision Finding, so a remote lost in the sofa cushions is findable from your iPhone, not just a loud beep and a hope.
Also announced: Apple Home Collection
Alongside the three main devices, Apple introduced Apple Home Collection, a separate lineup of smart home accessories made by LG and Schneider Home, sold through Apple and set up entirely in the Apple Home app. It includes a video doorbell, floodlight and indoor/outdoor cameras, a smart deadbolt lock with Ultra Wideband auto-unlock, and smart thermostats from both LG and Schneider Home. These are not Apple-branded hardware, but they are built specifically to work with HomeView, HomePod and Apple TV as home hubs. They ship in December 2026, a little later than the three main devices.
Should you pre-order now?
Our honest read: if you already use Apple TV or HomePod and want a proper home hub with a screen, HomeView is the one worth getting excited about, it is a new category rather than an incremental update. The new Apple TV 4K is a solid, not essential, upgrade if your current one is more than two generations old or you want the AV1 decoding for smoother streaming. The HomePod mini 2 is the easiest recommendation of the three: same price bracket as before in real terms, genuinely better sound processing, and Sound Glow is a nice touch for very little extra cost.
All three can be pre-ordered now through AppleXtreme Store Uganda, with Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2 shipping from October 30, 2026, and HomeView from November 13, 2026. Reach out to us on WhatsApp to reserve yours ahead of launch.
