October 27, 2026 · AppleXtreme Store, Kampala
Source: Apple Newsroom, 27 October 2026 · Written for Uganda by AppleXtreme StoreApple has announced the 24-inch iMac with the M6 chip. It keeps the thin all-in-one design, now comes in seven colours, and pre-orders open on 28 October with sales starting on 6 November.
Reservations are already open with us on WhatsApp. We will confirm the Uganda price when stock lands, so we are not quoting a number today. Below is what changed, who it suits, and what to check before you pay anyone for one.
What's new in the iMac with M6
The big change is the chip. The M6 comes with a 10-core or 12-core CPU and a 10-core or 12-core GPU, and every GPU core now has its own Neural Accelerator. Apple says that gives up to 2x faster graphics and up to 5x faster on-device AI than the M4 iMac.
- Memory goes up to 32GB, with bandwidth up to 170GB/s.
- Storage options run up to 2TB, and Apple says SSD read and write speeds are up to 2x faster.
- Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 are included.
- Apple claims up to 18x the speed of the most popular Intel-based iMac.
Those are Apple's own test figures, so treat them as a guide. Ordinary office work was never slow on the M4, and you will not feel 5x in email and spreadsheets. You will feel it in video exports, large photo libraries and anything that leans on AI tools.
Design and colours
The colour range is blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver. The Magic Keyboard and your choice of Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad come colour-matched, and both use USB-C.
The screen is a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display (23.5 inches of actual viewing area) at 500 nits with P3 wide colour. The 12-core model has a nano-texture glass option. The 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View is still there, along with a three-microphone array and a speaker system with two pairs of force-cancelling woofers and two tweeters.
If this will sit in a shop, a school office or a reception area, the colour matters more than people expect. Pick it with the room in mind.
Ports and the two models
The 12-core model gets all four Thunderbolt 4 ports, 2.5Gb Ethernet and a Touch ID keyboard as standard. The 10-core model has fewer Thunderbolt ports, Ethernet is only on 12-core models, and you can add Touch ID through the keyboard with a numeric keypad. Either can drive up to two 6K external displays.
For context, Apple's US prices are $1,499 for the 10-core and $1,699 for the 12-core. Uganda pricing will differ, and we will confirm it when stock arrives.
- 10-core: accounts, admin, school work, browsing, general business use.
- 12-core: video editing, design, several displays, or an office that runs on a wired network.
Should you upgrade?
If you still run an Intel iMac or an M1, this is a big step and worth saving for. If you own the M4 iMac, there is little reason to change yet.
If you want a desktop now and do not want to wait, the iMac 24" M4 is in stock at from UGX 14,000,000. If you already have a screen, the Mac mini M6 is at from UGX 3,690,000.
The iMac with M6 ships with macOS 27, and it works with your iPhone for file sharing, handoff and iPhone Mirroring. If your phone is already an iPhone, that part is easy.
Before you buy: ask for a sealed box, check the serial number on Apple's coverage page before you pay, and be careful with grey imports, which can come with no local support. Get a proper receipt, because exchanges for confirmed defects need proof of purchase.Using a desktop with Uganda's power cuts
An iMac has no battery. When the power drops, it switches off at once, and unsaved work goes with it. A sudden cut can also be hard on any computer over time.
Put it on a UPS. A small one gives you a few minutes to save and shut down properly, and it smooths out the dips and surges that come with unstable supply. A surge-protected extension is the minimum. Ask us for the right UPS size for your setup, since it depends on what else is plugged in, such as a second screen or a router.
