Apple Watch Series 12 in Uganda: Price, Features and Where to Buy

Source: Apple Newsroom, 9 September 2026 · Written for Uganda by AppleXtreme StoreApple announced the Apple Watch Series 12 on 9 September 2026, and it went on sale in stores abroad on 18 September. It starts at $399 in the US. We now have it in stock at AppleXtreme Store in Kampala, and customers have been asking what is actually different from the older watches.
The short answer is health tracking. The case looks familiar, but Apple has changed the sensors on the back and the software on top. Below is what that means, who it suits, and what to check before you pay anyone for one in Uganda.
What's new on the Apple Watch Series 12
The main change is what Apple calls the Health Sensing System. It uses new optical and electrical heart sensors together with the S11 chip. The green LEDs are larger and use less power, so the watch can read your heart rate every five seconds through the day. Heart rate variability (HRV) is measured up to 24 times more often than before.
Apple says this is the most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable, based on its own study of more than 1,000 people. That is Apple testing Apple, so treat it as a claim, not a verdict. The Vitals app is for wellness only and is not a medical device.
Other additions:
- Readiness score: a daily number from 0 to 10 built from your activity, training load, vitals and sleep. It gives a simple suggestion such as Recover or Go For It.
- Better step counting: a redesigned pedometer, mainly aimed at indoor walking and running distance.
- New watch face complications: live heart rate and live steps.
- Audio Intelligence: sound alerts for things like sirens and a crying baby, and Live Rewind, which shows the last 15 seconds of a conversation as text. This arrives later this year, and Live Rewind needs an iPhone 16 or later and starts in English only.
Design, colours and materials
It comes in two sizes, 42mm and 46mm, and the case is 9.7 mm thick. The display is an always-on OLED that reaches 2,000 nits, which is useful in Kampala sunshine.
Aluminium models come in dark bronze, black, light gold and space gray, and now use Ceramic Shield 2 on the front. Apple says it is 60% tougher than the glass on the Series 11. Titanium comes in natural and a new radiant gold, and the ceramic versions come in pearl white and night blue. Titanium and ceramic models use sapphire glass. Water resistance is 50 metres.
Battery and charging
Apple quotes up to 24 hours of normal use. For an outdoor workout it says up to 10 hours, which is 25% more than the last model. Fast charging is the bigger gain for daily life: 15 minutes on the charger gives up to 12 hours of use, and about 80% takes roughly 30 minutes.
That helps in Uganda, where load shedding can leave you with a short window of power. A quick top-up while you shower or eat breakfast is enough for the day. Charge it from a surge-protected socket or a power bank, and avoid cheap unbranded chargers.
Should you upgrade?
Buy it if you are coming from a Series 7 or older, or from a watch with a cracked screen and poor battery. Buy it too if you train regularly and want recovery and HRV data without wearing a separate strap.
Skip it if you only want notifications and step counts. The Apple Watch SE 3 does that for less, and you can see it here: Apple Watch SE 3. If you want the biggest battery and a tougher case for hiking or diving, look at the Apple Watch Ultra 4.
If you already have a Series 10 or 11, the upgrade is smaller. You are paying for the sensors, faster charging and the Readiness score, so decide whether those matter to you.
You need an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 27. An Android phone will not work. Some of the new software features, such as Siri AI, are in beta and start in English.
Before you buy: ask to see the box sealed, check that the serial number on the box matches the one under Settings > General > About on the watch, and confirm the watch is not locked to someone else's Apple ID. Be careful with very cheap "new" watches from social media sellers. These are often grey imports, used units or locked devices, and Apple will not help you with those.Buying in Uganda
