HomePod Mini 2 in Uganda: Features, Colours and Pre-Order

Source: Apple Newsroom, 13 October 2026 · Written for Uganda by AppleXtreme StoreApple announced the next HomePod mini on 13 October 2026. We are calling it HomePod mini 2 here, and it keeps the small round speaker people know, with a new light display on top, five colours and a new chip inside. It costs $149 in the US, and in-store sales start on Friday 30 October.
We are taking pre-orders and reservations on WhatsApp now. Our Uganda price will be confirmed when stock lands, and the current figure on the site is from UGX 980,000. Below is what Apple has said about it so far, and what it means if you are buying in Kampala.
What is new
Apple does not compare it directly with the first HomePod mini, so this list is simply what Apple presents as new or headline features.
- The Apple S10 chip, with computational audio that analyses the music as it plays to adjust loudness and dynamic range.
- Sound Glow, a light display on top of the speaker that moves with the bass and treble and picks up colours from the album art.
- Support for Siri AI, which Apple says is built on its latest Foundation Models and arrives later as a free software update.
- Voice recognition for up to six people in the same household.
- Sound Recognition, which listens for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and sends a notification to your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.
Design and colours
It is still a compact speaker, about 3.3 inches tall according to Apple's site. The colours are pink, green, blue, white and midnight. Sound is 360-degree, so it fills a room evenly instead of firing in one direction. That suits a bedroom, a home office or a small sitting room better than a big lounge.
You can use one on its own, buy two as a stereo pair, or put several in different rooms and play music across them.
Sound, TV and Mac
There are two uses here that people often miss. First, home theatre. Four speakers, in matching front and rear pairs, can give you surround sound with the new Apple TV 4K (4th generation). You can mix HomePod mini 2 with the HomePod (2nd generation) in that setup, and Apple says the system works out where each speaker sits and sets the timing and levels itself. If you already plan to buy the Apple TV 4K, that is worth knowing.
Second, it can be the default speaker for a Mac for films, games, FaceTime and calls. That needs a Mac with Wi-Fi 6E or later, so an older MacBook will not qualify.
Smart home and Siri AI
HomePod mini 2 works as a home hub. That lets you control compatible accessories from your iPhone when you are out, and set up scenes and automations in the Home app. Accessories are sold separately. Apple lists locking a door, closing a garage, lowering blinds, changing the thermostat and switching off lights as things you can ask for by voice.
Cameras and doorbells are a later story. Apple says its Home Collection starts in December, with select accessories in early 2027. If you want a hub for those, Apple names the Apple HomeView, HomePod or Apple TV as options.
One honest point about Siri AI. Apple says it launches in English only, in the US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK. Uganda is not on that list. The personal features also need an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad. So buy this for the speaker, the hub and the Sound Glow first, and treat Siri AI here as something that may or may not reach you soon.
Should you upgrade?
Buy it if you want a small, good-sounding speaker, a first smart home hub, or a second speaker for another room. It also makes sense if you want cheap surround sound to go with an Apple TV.
Think twice if you already own a working HomePod mini and only want the new look. Apple has not published a side-by-side comparison, so we cannot tell you the sound is a big step up. Also skip it if you want a speaker that runs on a battery. Apple only shows this one with a power cable, so it stays plugged in.
Before you buy: ask for a sealed box and check the serial number on Apple's coverage page. Be careful with grey imports and with anyone selling stock before 30 October. Also plug it into a surge protector, because power cuts and spikes are common.Buying in Uganda
