Touchscreen MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR in Uganda: Specs and Reservations

Source: Apple Newsroom, 28 October 2026 · Written for Uganda by AppleXtreme StoreFor years people asked Apple for a Mac they could touch, and for years Apple said no. Today it changed its mind. The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display has a touchscreen, an OLED panel and the Dynamic Island from the iPhone, and it comes in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. Pre-orders opened on 28 October and it goes on sale on 6 November 2026.
This is a different machine from the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 that Apple announced yesterday. That one keeps the old screen and starts lower. This one sits above it and is aimed at people who edit photos and video, colour grade, design or build 3D work for a living. Here is what it does, who it is really for, and how to get one in Kampala.
The screen is the whole story
Apple calls it PROLED XDR. It is a tandem OLED panel, which means two layers of self-lit pixels stacked together. You get true blacks with no glow around bright objects, and it is far brighter than a normal OLED. Apple quotes up to 2000 nits for both HDR and everyday content, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and refresh rates from 10Hz up to 120Hz.
It also covers both the P3 and Adobe RGB colour ranges. That matters if you print photos or deliver work to agencies that check colour, because what you see is closer to what comes out the other end. There is an optional nano-texture glass finish that cuts glare. If you often work near a bright window or outside, it is worth asking about.
Touch on a Mac, finally
The touch layer is built into the display itself. You can swipe, pinch, scroll and drag on screen, and macOS 27 has been reworked so buttons and menus respond properly to a finger. The trackpad and keyboard are still there, so you use touch when it helps and ignore it when it doesn't.
Apple also redesigned the hinge so the screen doesn't wobble when you tap it, and the camera steadies itself if you touch the screen during a video call. Small details, but they are the things that make touchscreen laptops annoying when they are done badly.
The Dynamic Island now lives at the top of the screen. It shows Spotlight searches, Live Activities like a delivery or a timer, and Siri AI, the same way it works on an iPhone.
Chips, memory and battery
- M5 Pro or M5 Max, the same chips Apple moved the MacBook Pro to in March
- Up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage on M5 Max
- 14-inch weighs 3 pounds (about 1.36 kg), half a pound lighter than before
- 16-inch weighs 4 pounds (about 1.81 kg), 0.7 pounds lighter
- Up to 24 hours of battery life, by Apple's own testing
The weight drop is the part we think people will notice most. A 16-inch Pro that weighs about the same as an older 14-inch is a real difference if you carry it between home, office and client meetings on a boda.
Ports and the rest
- Three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack
- Up to three external displays on M5 Pro and up to four on M5 Max
- 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View
- Six speakers with 50 percent deeper bass, and three studio-quality mics
- Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Touch ID
You still get HDMI and a card slot, so plugging into a projector at church or a conference, or pulling footage off a camera card, needs no adapter.
Who should buy it, and who shouldn't
Buy this if your work lives on the screen: photographers, video editors, colourists, designers and 3D artists. The display and the extra power are the reasons it exists. It also makes sense if you want the lightest, longest-lasting 16-inch Mac Apple has made.
If you mainly write, browse, run spreadsheets and join Zoom calls, you are paying for things you won't use. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 arrives the same week for a lot less, and a MacBook Air 13" M5 at from UGX 6,200,000 will be plenty for most students and office work. If you need a Pro today, the MacBook Pro 14" M5 is in stock at from UGX 6,600,000.
Before you buy: a touchscreen MacBook Pro will be a target for fakes and grey imports in the first months. Ask for a sealed box, check the serial number on the box matches the machine, and make sure the charger and plug suit Uganda's 240V sockets. Always get a receipt.Price and buying in Uganda
In the US the 14-inch model with M5 Pro starts at $2,899 and the 16-inch at $3,399. With M5 Max it starts at $4,499 for the 14-inch and $4,799 for the 16-inch. The Uganda price isn't set yet. We will confirm it once stock lands, and everyone on the reservation list hears first.
